Easter Events in Austin

Easter in Austin has become another drinking holiday.

The Beauty Bar is planning its annual 21+ egg hunt. The prizes are a “surprise” but if the theme follows last year’s nature, then it should include jello shots and cash, and possibly a few things of racy nature.
The Beauty Bar could be described as alternative, hipster, dive bar, but it’s a chain so they have to ad-hear to some successful standards throughout. It’s supposed to look like a working barber shop, which is neat. They often have live bands inside and outside, but it can get crowded quick if it’s a music night, so go early.
The hunt will have more elements than just looking for eggs. There will be competitions and drawings, awards and special events. This is a no miss situation at the Beauty Bar,  but in other spots it will be just a place for organizations to try and get you to donate money.
My suggestion is to arrive about 3 p.m. and plan on pacing yourself if the plan is to drink. Enjoy the sights and atmosphere, participate in the contests, and the more you cheer the more fun it is for everybody. Don’t be self-conscious.
Most adult Easter egg hunts are usually characterized by not adults, but teenagers. In past years for Austin, this side of the holiday has shifted in the direction that Halloween has: another drinking holiday with people dressed up as bunnies.
Also, there is a big Donny Darko theme at some of these which can get a little strange. The Beauty Bar will steer from this kind of theme.

Nothing to do with Easter, but I’ve been dying to go to Beauty Bar! I’ve heard so much about it from friends, sounds like an awesome place with a retro vibe. If you’re into that sort of thing, check out Swan Dive just a few feet away on Red River. SUPER cool interior and style; last night I sat and had drinks with a few friends while listening to a full polka band. So refreshing and different. I absolutely recommend it!
